The Yellowjacket is a strange fighter, it looks physically like a helicopter from a previous era though it’s not even meant for use in an atmosphere. It was designed for use by the SA military, however they had designs already in use, so LM has sold them to authorized colony worlds and mercenaries that can afford them. Unlike most other fighters and and other small ships it has a pair of seats next to each other, much like many shuttles. It is classified as a Heavy Fighter, but it’s actually somewhere between most medium fighters and most heavy fighters. The design is intended to be used much like a classic bomber, where it has defensive weapons and a bomb/missile payload for it’s primary mission. It lacks heavier armor and better endurance of other heavy fighter designs, but is quicker and more agile than they are.
The Yellowjacket is armed with a tail mounted pair of linked railguns, 1 top mounted dual barrel laser, and 2 standard missile launchers which each hold 16 missiles. The laser and railgun is to protect it from enemy fighters, while the missile launchers make it a threat to larger vessels and other targets. The most unique feature however is a modular cargo assembly on the bottom of the craft. While this usually mounts a winch and small docking gear for carrying cargo between vessels when needed, it also has modules up to and including a pair of heavy anti-ship missiles that it can carry even though such weapons make it ship slower and less agile.
It has a pair of dual exhaust engine pods mounted on fixed ‘wings’ which can rotate in a full circle providing quick changes in thrust and a reduced need for maneuvering thrusters.
