History

The Starfighter II was a limited production run ‘fighter’ designed for ground to space intercept. The name it is now known by was it’s nickname owing to the similarity between the classic early jet age F-104 starfighter fighter and this aircraft. It is impossible to class it as a proper fighter generation because craft of the time were designed for stealth, which the Starfighter II lacks completely. Instead it would rely on the difficulty of detection in space to hide it.

It was armed with six aerospace missiles, three to a wing, in their own bays. It has no backup weapons and was effectively useless after those six shots. What it did have however was a massive nuclear fission torch engine design which could function equally well in the atmosphere or in space. Unlike pretty much any other fighters of it’s era it could reach orbit from the surface under it’s own power, and more it could move within the orbital plane before it ran out of fuel.

A later version was made that mounted four missiles under protective covers and a pair of laser arrays also behind covers. This would give an extension to their useful life during engagements and made them useful for their intercept mission for decades to come. The engines would be changed to a Nuclear Fusion Torch developed in the years between their original development. Many of these were painted in USAF colors to honor their history.
