History

The Muatan Freighter was designed along similar lines to the Convoy Freighter and was to fill the bulk transport need as well, however the Muatan is more flexible. Various modules can be connected in series to meet whatever the current needs are and most freight hubs these vessels will visit carry modules so they can be changed out as needed. A ‘typical’ long-haul freighter equipped Muatan will have a command, interlink, tanker, cargo, passenger, and drive modules. A ‘Short-haul’ equipped Muatan will have command, light cargo, and light drive modules.

Modules

Command Module: The command module is basically the bridge and critical control systems of the Muatan. It also has basic accommodations that can house up to a dozen people. It requires 6 crew.

Interlink module: An interlink module simply connects a command module to Tanker, Large Cargo, or Passenger Modules.

Tanker Module: A tanker module holds cylinders which typically contain fuel, gasses, liquids, or other materials held in suspension. Only one tanker module can be used at a time.

Cargo Module: Cargo modules hold bulk freight cargo. Some of this is held in inner compartments, though this is usually ‘loose’ items. The rest goes in exterior bulk freight containers which can be disconnected or connected by tug without needing to be ‘loaded’ onto the vessel.

Passenger Module: Passenger modules allow housing of either crew or passengers in relative comfort. Passenger modules can hold up to a hundred passengers. It requires 10 crew.

Drive Module: A drive modules houses a pair of interconnected fusion torch drives as well as an FTL drive. It requires a crew of 12 to maintain it.

Light Cargo Module: A light cargo module allows a Muatan to carry small loads. Since the ‘Light’ configuration can land on low gravity worlds or station platforms of sufficient size this module has four landing pads on the bottom of it.

Light Drive Module: A light drive module connects only to the Light Cargo Module and when the two are paired you have a nice short haul freighter for purely in-system transport. It requires 4 crew.
