Hod System

Hody (previously called Wolf 1061 or V2306 Ophiuchi) is a red dwarf star. It is located relatively near the Sun, at a distance of about 13.8 light years, in the constellation Ophiuchus. It has a relatively high proper motion and has not been found to have any unusual spectroscopic features.

Two planets orbit this star. GJ 682 b is a super-earth lava planet extremely close to the red dwarf star of the system. Hod’s World (GJ 682 c) is a super-earth ocean world, but it’s habitability is limited mostly due to high gravity. Beyond Hod’s World is a large asteroid belt.

A renegade UEG captain of a Nanxing Exploration Cruiser and his crew decided to form his own colony in this system. As his name was Hod the system and the the only vaguely habitable world gained his name. The UEG didn’t care to much as they didn’t have ships at the time to hunt him down with and the system was not very important. They built an aerostat that can lower and raise itself in Hod’s Worlds atmosphere, from there they used hydroponics to create a large food supply. Without supplies from Sol they developed very slowly, trading excess food and water with colony world’s like Tantalus and Ares.

The Colony Rebellion changed everything. While the Hod System had never been charged taxes from the UEG, as they did not trade with them, they did trade with several colony worlds. They offered limited support, for a price, to the colonies during the war and attracted a lot of mercenaries, pirates, and corsairs. The UEG tried repeatedly to hit it, but the aerostat could actually go so far as to submerge itself and the ships they had would hide whenever the UEG moved in. The UEG were unwilling to leave major forces here and if they didn’t leave a good sized force the pirates, mercenaries, corsairs, and the systems own forces would rush out and hammer whatever assets were left.

They were offered a place in the Systems Alliance equal to any of the colony worlds. They refused and have remained neutral preferring to operate as a ‘hive of scum and villainy’. Hod’s son took over as ‘admiral of the fleet’ when his father died and they have a decent military force they use to protect themselves. However the Hod family and the descendants of the original ship make what passes for law as well as commanding the ships of their defense force.

Life in the Hod system is usually brutal if your not one of ‘the family’, however mercenaries, thieves, and pirates routinely make their way in and out of this area. Since this is not a SA system the normal rules do not apply. The family however does keep some rules in place so as not to come under fire from the SA military.
