History

The Agni is a small spaceplane design which was used across all of Asia. It was barely larger then some heavy fighter aircraft designs of it’s day and could not reach orbit on it’s own power. However it did not require a large crew, could carry passenger or satellite cargoes, did not cost very much to build, and could land on the planet just fine. It was extremely popular and a very common site in orbit.

They were never designed to carry weapons and were never provided any defensive capabilities. They used a pair of high powered scram-jet engines for their primary thrust and a set of small ion thrusters to change position in space. The use orbital booster rockets to reach orbit as they lack the raw power to do it on their own.

The need for a small ground to orbit shuttle led to a redesign called the Agni II during the Interstellar Space Era. This model replaced the classic scram-jet engines with early fusion torch models. Some even ended up used in combat by desperate colonial forces with a retractable missile rack filling it’s payload bay. They were mostly phased out as the Sparrow, Osprey, and Wanderer spacecraft replaced them.
