The Vector Carrier was a design out of place for it’s era. It was designed during the Colony Rebellion period when fighters were seen as having a limited use in modern battles by many. It was designed with the idea of holding dozens of shuttles or dropships and rumors say that the original frame was actually a type of freighter. The Vector is designed much like the Crusher Frigate as a bulky, yet compact body with it’s simple drive system in the rear.
It has 10 railgun turrets to provide point-defense ability and otherwise relies on it’s small craft from four short hangar bays for it’s punch. The hangar bays are highly exposed though which provides an easy target for enemy vessels to cause serious damage. This has meant that the Vector needs to stay as far away form the enemy as possible and preferably act with a screen of Frigates or other ships to provide cover. It has two primary and four secondary fusion torch drives to provide it’s thrust.
A few were sold to the Colonies during the conflict, though FIC still uses many of them, and as time moves on more and more are sold off to third parties. Those models sold allowed older generation fighters used on the colonies to take part in some of the later conflicts of the Colony Rebellion. It is rare to find anyone outside of the FIC to still using rebellion era Vector Carriers, however, as the colony militias lost all but one of these ships to enemy fire with the UEG.
